What do you expect from a translator? You want the translation to sound as if you had written the original text in the target language. We're all familar with English texts whose syntax and choice of words betrays the fact that the author is, in fact, a German-speaking person. You don't want such errors in your translation. You want your reader to get the impression that YOU are a native speaker - or at least as good as a native speaker.

Your translator first makes a rough draft. He/She compares the original and the translation at least two further times, then proof-reads the entire text to check for editorial errors (such as the repetitive use of a word in a sentence, too long sentences, etc.). Points that are not clear or don't make good sense (in the original text) are listed in a separate letter and sent to you along with the translation. Quite often, authors had errors in their original text which came to their notice only after we had translated their paper for them.

Why should I have somebody else translate my work ?

Even for a person who is well versed in a foreign language the question arises as to whether it is meaningful to translate one's scientific work oneself. At first glance "do-it-yourself" may appear economical. But how much is an hour of your work worth? Or what is the value you assign to an hour of leisure?

A person who has extensive practice in a certain job (a translator, for instance) needs much less time to do the job than one who does such work occasionally. Which again saves time and money.

Or take the factor of time. Who, among us, has enough time to really do all the things he intends to do? Some things are postponed to a later point in time, they're postponed again, and finally your interest just peters out. Sounds familiar?

This is how your translation is done:

First a rough draft. Then a careful perusal of your literature. Then a second check of the translation to adjust it to the style of the journal you've selected for publication. Finally the text is edited. Upon request we also do extensive editing - such as omitting repetitive words or statements, making the message more clear, etc. If we find any oddities in your paper - such as a conflict between Material and Methods and Conclusions - we make you aware of such points. Basically, you benefit from the fact that we have extensive editing experience. We do more than translate - we get your paper ready for publication.

If the translator doesn't understand any points in your text or has questions, he/she will get in touch with you by e-mail and clarify those points. Based on your reply, the final version is completed and sent. You have a product that's formatted, correctly worded and properly edited. Ready for publication after a final check from you.
You get your translation in any desired file format. Questions or remarks from the translator are enclosed in a separate file. Answers to queries that you may have are given to you at no extra charge, of  course. The same applies to hard copies on paper, diskettes or CDs.
